2023 4-H Milk Duds Guidelines

Membership Guidelines:

  • Members must attend 3 of the first five meetings to be eligible to show at the 4-H dairy county round-up. It is your responsibility to make sure your name is on the roster list for each club meeting. If you are late, make sure you sign the paper after the meeting.
  • Members must attend 4 of the dairy club meetings to be eligible for awards.
  • Each member must submit a completed project book on or before December 5th. If you do not submit a current, completed project book, you will be ineligible to show the following year! You will also be ineligible to receive any roundup awards if you do not hand in a completed project book.
  • You must show your own animal at the county 4-H dairy show.

A Few PA Jr. Dairy Show Rule Reminders:

  • All cattle must be owned by the member and recorded on the registration papers, or designated as a project animal for leased animals on or before June 1, 2022. No animals owned in partnership is permitted.
  • Leased animals: Cows may only be leased by the exhibitor only if they were previously leased as calves or yearlings.
  • If an exhibitor finds it impossible to attend the 4-H County Dairy Show due to other commitments and is requesting a substitute showman for their animals, written request for permission must be submitted and approved by the 4-H office before show check-in.
  • At our 4-H county show only, we do allow grade animals to be shown if the member does not own any registered animals.

Parent Expectations:

  • The dairy 4-H program is an opportunity for the members to learn more about their project, develop life skills and build positive relationships. We encourage every member to become involved in the program.
  • Volunteers are here to assist in the learning experience of all the members. However, they cannot do it alone. We encourage you to be involved in the club activities. Helping hands are needed at a lot of events and social opportunities.
  • We also ask that you be respectful at the club meetings. Remember it is youth that are leading the meetings and some of the educational sessions. They do not need to compete with parent voices and comments. If you wish to have a conversation during the meeting, please do so at the back of the room or in the hallway. This will ensure all members and interested parties are able to hear the program.

Project Books:

  • Books will be distributed at the March meeting. During the year, if you have any questions, please call your leader or the 4-H office.

* Project Book Deadline is December 1st - No Book - No Show - No Exceptions.

4-H County Dairy Show:

More details of the show, activities and health requirements will be available in May. Please be sure to complete your entries accurately and completely. These entries are forwarded to the district and state shows for those members interested. If there is wrong information or no information given, it will follow through to all the shows.
