The vision of the leaders is in educating youth about raising, feeding, and fitting goats for shows.
Lancaster County 4-H Market Goat Club members meet monthly from January to September, each month featuring an educational program related to care, management, or showing goats. The club began in 1993 with ten members with the vision of educating youth about raising, feeding, and fitting goats for shows. These goals are still central to the club today. All members are encouraged to participate in club activities and service projects.
How Do I Raise a Goat?
The Goat Club has a showmanship and fitting meeting each year to demonstrate how to do everything needed to maintain a happy, healthy goat! A goat needs to be fed properly, exercised, and given shots to prevent illness. It also needs a tattoo number or ear tag for identification. In preparation for a show, the goat needs to be shaved (all hair off), except for the tail and have their hooves trimmed. Health certificates from a veterinarian are required for each show to ensure the health and safety of the goat and other goats present at the fair.
Plans have been made for another enjoyable and educational 4-H Goat Club project year. Please read the letter you received, and keep it as a reminder of our meetings.
