The Penn State Extension Master Gardener Program is a volunteer program that supports the outreach mission of the Penn State Extension by utilizing unbiased, research-based information to educate the public and our communities on best practices in sustainable horticulture and environmental stewardship. No prior experience is required, as all volunteers go through 40-60 hours of Basic Training in horticulture science. Trainees must then complete 50 hours of volunteer service and complete a final project within their first year to achieve their official Master Gardener certification. Master Gardeners maintain their certification by completing 20 hours of volunteer service and 10 hours of continuing education each year.
Our registration period for the Class of 2025 will be opening next spring. Sign up online to be informed about training updates for the next class or follow Penn State Master Gardeners of Chester County on Facebook or @chescomastergardeners on Instagram.
We encourage everyone to apply and are always excited for the new visions, ideas, and background knowledge that each incoming Master Gardener brings to our program.
