Master Gardeners, led by Dave Jones, have partnered with the Parkesburg Library for 5 years, to install and maintain beautiful blooming beds, edible gardens, as well as plots for community participants.
The Gardens have reached Certified Pollinator Status, and this effort has been enhanced by new plantings all along the southern face of the library building.
Read his wonderful summary of the happy effort at the Library:
"Any extra vegetable that we produce throughout the season is taken into the library for free distribution to the library patrons. This year we did experience an attack of the groundhogs that managed to get under our storage shed and then wipe out more than half of the veggies. We were able to catch and release one, but we still have a challenge to protect our beds this fall and next spring. We have a very nice crop of leeks, some corn and lots of tomatoes that have made it through the trauma. We are also planting our 5th year of garlic, which is a favorite."
