Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering

Position: Assistant Professor position at Purdue University with research and teaching responsibilities related to bioprocess engineering as applied to food, pharmaceutical, and/or biological-based products. The successful candidate will join the faculty in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering on the main campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Qualifications: A BS and Ph.D. in Engineering or closely related field is required. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to lead a novel research program in the engineering of food, pharmaceutical, and/or biological-based products and the processes. Skills related to effective teaching, communication, and problem solving as well as the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams are required. Applicants should have proven research experience beyond the Ph.D. and articulate how their developed research program will integrate with or facilitate collaborative interactions within and beyond the department.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally recognized research program in the development of food, pharmaceutical, and/or biological-based products and processes. The research may address all aspects of the science of food and biological systems pertaining to experimental areas of product characterization and process analysis such as rheology, texture, 3D printing of food and other biomaterials, extrusion, food safety, novel methods of microbial deactivation, food microbiome, fermentation, plant-based and cultured foods, etc. and also pertaining to computational areas such as AI, modeling, optimization, control, or simulation of batch and continuous food and biological processes . The candidate will be expected to secure extramural research funding, to develop collaborative research projects, and to directly support the educational mission of the biological engineering program. The candidate will be expected to advise graduate and undergraduate students, to teach both undergraduate and graduate-level engineering courses (e.g. mass/energy balances, thermodynamics, chemical/biochemical reaction engineering, transport phenomena, or process design and control), to engage in departmental, college and university-level service activities, and to participate in national and international professional activities.

Appointment and Salary: Assistant Professor (9-month appointment; tenure-track). Salary commensurate with
