PhD and Postdoc Positions Available - Purdue University
Purdue University’s Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering is part of Purdue University’s Plant Science “Big Moves” Initiative. The program calls for applications for 1 Postdoc and 2 PhD positions working on imaging and sensors development for plant phenotyping. The postdoc position is available beginning in Sep 2016. The PhD positions are available beginning in Spring/Summer/Fall of 2017. The successful candidates will be involved in the development of next generation plant phenotyping systems. More specifically, the research will include integrating modern sensor technologies such as hyperspectral, 3D, thermal, fluorescent cameras, and related technologies for plant screening purposes. The candidates will also be studying imaging processing and machine vision algorithms. Statistical modeling and big data analysis will be conducted to assist the search of plant genes at a much faster speed than before, so as to produce more and safer food for the world’s growing population.
Candidates are expected to have a bachelor or master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Statistics, or other related areas. Further, postdoc candidates should have a completed PhD degree (or demonstrate requirements for degree have been satisfied) in related areas. Computer programming skills and research experiences in some of the following areas are highly desired: Optics Designing, Scientific Photography, Robotics and Automation Control, Mobile Apps Development, Big Data Modeling, Image Processing Algorithms.
Application deadline for PhD positions is December 1, 2016 for Fall and Summer 2017 start, and Oct 1, 2016 for Spring 2017 start.
