Proper soil fertility is the foundation for plant health. Preparing your soil is a critical step in successful vegetable or flower gardening. Different types of plants have specific nutritional requirements, and soil pH and nutrient levels can vary greatly from site to site, and change over time. By testing your soil before planting, you'll learn the optimal levels for your plants, and receive recommendations for soil amendments, if needed.

You can test your garden soil by purchasing a soil testing kit for a nominal fee at our brand new Bucks County Extension office. The test results take about two weeks. Instructions are included with the kit.

Our Bucks County Master Gardeners are available by phone or email to help you with soil test kit instructions, and to interpret your soil test results. Call or email the Master Gardeners at 267-483-2022 or . This is a free service for Bucks County residents.
