Compost bin station at Snipes

Snipes Farm and Education Center is located at 890 W. Bridge Street in Morrisville. The center is open to school groups and tours. It welcomes the public on Saturdays. Over two thousand children visited our Master Gardener gardens in May and June of this year. A summer farm camp will include nature lessons on garden food, soil, science, native plants, and pollinators. In the fall, "Open Days at Snipes Farm" brings approximately 2000 visitors a day!

In 2016, Master Gardener Carolyn Dorph secured a $1000 grant to plant a native garden at the Snipes Center. In 2023 she formed an alliance between Snipes and the Master Gardeners of Bucks County. The Master Gardeners have created a new garden and a demonstration project on the site.  They have also provided significant support for the restoration of a children's garden. The Pollinator Garden that was started this spring is already complete with flowers, birds, and pollinators. Five MG trainees designed, ordered, planted, labeled, and mulched the site. They will also maintain the garden. This garden will provide pollinators for the adjacent fields of food crops and educate the public about native plants and pollinators. Plans include purchasing and placing stepping stones to guide visitors through the garden.

The Compost Bin Demonstration Site creates a clear and understandable reason for composting. Two Master Gardener mentors are working with five Master Gardener trainees to transform an existing compost site into an educational and practical project. There is signage and explanations of how to compost. The compost benefits the farm residents and is utilized in all the Snipes gardens. The educational component teaches the farm residents, the camp attendees, and the local community about recycling food scraps and the benefits for the earth.
