Penn State University's Department of Entomology has confirmed that 6 spiders found in Bucks County were jorō spiders. It is extremely useful for us to positively identify these spiders by taking clear pictures of any spiders that we suspect might be jorō and submitting them to our Hotline. While the impact of jorō spiders on the environment is not yet known, we do know the venom is weak. There is no medical risk to interacting with them and the use of pesticides is not necessary.  More information can be found on the Penn State Extension Joro Spider factsheet.
