4-H Swine Club’s May meeting kicked off fair prep with schedule updates, display planning, and barn shift sign-ups to get everyone ready for showtime!
“Prepare for Fair” was the subject of this month's meeting in Swine Club. We began by discussing the changes in the Bucks County 4-H Round-Up schedule. Two main changes were that the swine auction will begin at 2 pm instead of 3 pm and that the Master Showmen contest starts at 10 am on Sunday and not at 11 am. After the changes were acknowledged, we formed a committee to plan our display for fair. Josh, Katie, and Rachel all volunteered to serve on that committee. We began work on the barn shift schedule. Club members were encouraged to sign up soon.
Since this month was the date to turn in posters early, two posters were presented. First, McKenzie presented hers on swine embryonic transplant. Then Jacob and Bradley showed their project about common swine diseases.
For our special guest, we had Leah's dad, Mr. Kochersperger, who was a butcher for almost 50 years at Altomonte’s Italian Market. He came to speak about the sections of the pig. He explained which cuts of meat come from which section. He also told how to become a butcher.
We finished off the meeting by having hotdogs and cupcakes to celebrate Levi’s birthday.
