The current projects of the Master Gardeners of Washington County are Grow, Save, Repeat and Seed to Supper.
Grow, Save, Repeat is a collaboration between university breeders and home growers (who will become home breeders) to develop 1) diverse, locally adapted garden varieties of produce across Pennsylvania and 2) an educated public with knowledge of the value of diversity in our food system and how to increase that diversity.
This decentralized system of plant breeding may lead to hyper-locally adapted unique varieties with improved eating quality and resilience to climate change. We’re participating in creating our own regional heirloom varieties!
Seed to Supper is a comprehensive beginning gardening program that gives novice, adult gardeners the tools they need to successfully grow a portion of their own food on a limited budget.
