The Demonstration Gardens of Penn State Extension Washington County Master Gardeners can be found throughout the county.
The primary purpose of our Demonstration Gardens is to provide a hands-on educational experience to all segments of the population of Washington County, at the same time providing civic beautification.
Demonstration Gardens include: The Burgettstown Library Garden, Childrens Gardens (under construction), Donora Gardens at Second Street, Fairground Gardens, Historic Gardens (John White House & Enoch Wright House); and Therapeutic Art Garden at Premier Health Center.
A certified pollinator garden is part of the Donora Demonstration Gardens. The pollinator garden is part of a statewide Master Gardener initiative to promote and educate the public on the importance of pollinators.
No herbicides, insecticides or fungicides are used in the gardens. Local nurseries generously provide annuals.
Workshops and events are offered at our demonstration gardens throughout the year.
Washington County Children’s Garden is a public garden designed for children to discover, explore and learn about their natural world.
Award-winning Fairground Gardens at the Washington County Fairgrounds has 16 garden beds and 8 concrete containers that demonstrate different interests and themes each year.
The John White House (1806/1860) and the Enoch Wright House (1815) Gardens provide a look into life of the areas European Colonists.
The Master Gardeners' mission is to educate and assist individuals with varying skills and abilities in gardening opportunities and maintaining the Therapeutic Art Garden as a sanctuary and connection to nature for residents and their visitors.
