Gardeners at the Donora Second Street Demonstration Garden.
Nestled in the riverside community of Donora, this urban demonstration garden was established in 2016 in partnership with the Borough of Donora and the Mon Valley NAACP. It serves as a hands-on educational space for both residents and visitors.
The Master Gardeners of Washington County lead educational sessions and offer demonstrations on sustainable gardening practices, covering everything from vegetable cultivation to pollinator-friendly planting. With over 600 square feet of raised beds, the garden grows seasonal fresh produce and native plants, promoting local food security and hands-on learning.
Recent additions, including a Certified Pollinator Garden, a Rain Barrel system, and a three-bin composting area, further enhance the Donora Second Street Demonstration Garden's commitment to environmental stewardship. This space nurtures plants and fosters connections with nature, providing valuable gardening insights and sustainable techniques to improve the local landscape.
