The Master Gardener Outreach Committee connects with the public to promote Penn State Extension’s Master Gardener Program and share reliable, research-based horticulture education throughout Washington County. Through community events, presentations, and direct communication, we help individuals learn about available resources and how to get involved in the program.

The mission of the Washington County Master Gardener Outreach Committee is to inspire and educate the public about the Penn State Extension Master Gardener Program—and to help interested individuals take the next step in enrolling.

Whether you're a beginner home gardener, community garden leader, educator, or landscaping professional, the Master Gardener program offers research-based horticulture training to help you grow your skills and make a lasting impact in your community.

How We Reach Gardeners Like You

The Outreach Committee and our dedicated volunteers actively promote the Master Gardener Program through a wide range of community engagement efforts:

  • Information Tables: We host booths at local events—community days, county fairs, farmers markets, and garden centers (like Trax Farms, Bedner’s, and more)—where you can chat with a Master Gardener, pick up resources, and learn about the program and our offerings.
  • Public Presentations: We deliver fun and informative gardening talks at libraries, garden clubs, and local organizations. See our Speakers Bureau Presentation Seasonal Topics List
  • Advertising & Promotion: We spread the word about upcoming training opportunities in community calendars, newsletters, and other local media.
  • Prospective Volunteer List: We keep in touch with gardening enthusiasts through email updates and course announcements, helping you stay informed and ready to apply.
