The research project “Rapid cycle radio frequency technology for wood packaging materials used in international trade to replace methyl bromide for QPS purposes” at Penn State, was funded by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).

The main objectives of the project are to:
1. Determine the optimum parameters of RF technology that maximize heating uniformity and minimize treatment duration for common wood species used to construct wood packaging material and dunnage, in compliance with ISPM - 15.
2. Conduct cost/benefit analyses and prepare value propositions for implementing RF
technology.
3. Educate and promote adoption of this technology through engagement and collaboration with industry partners and formal Extension programming.
