The Herb Garden is divided into raised beds to demonstrate herb mixes used in different cultures and historic eras.
Supporting the mission of the Master Gardeners of Penn State Extension, the herb garden serves the home gardening and general public by providing a living display of herbs, with scientific and common names, organized by category of use or place in history. It demonstrates a variety of horticultural practices such as raised beds, vertical gardening, tiered gardening, and square-foot gardening as well as the use of recycled materials. It is maintained year-round providing examples of herbs throughout the year.
In 2012, the garden was renovated, and ten raised beds were built and installed. Individual beds have featured herbs relating to different themes such as mints, tea, culinary and household use, edible flowers, landscaping with herbs, and plants for dyeing,
The garden is used to support classes that teach the care and maintenance of herbs, garden design, and using herbs for cooking and crafts.
