Penn State Extension Master Gardeners see youth outreach as very important as our children are the gardeners of the future. Master Gardeners are involved in many community outreach projects for children such as educational fairs, school presentations, and school gardens.
Penn State Master Gardeners helped students at Mount Nittany Middle School in State College tend to the Memory Garden. They raked, weeded, mulched, and planted carrots.
Penn State Extension Master Gardeners help with hands-on projects which teach the children in so many ways as they learn about subjects such as plants, soil, insects, science, math, and nutrition. Master Gardeners also sponsor workshops to teach schoolteachers about composting, so that their students may learn the importance of recycling and taking care of the environment. Through the children's participation in these programs, their knowledge and skills grow as they have fun.
