Veterinary Science and Toastmasters - short termed projects

Two popular short term courses in Montgomery County 4-H are the Veterinary Science Short Courses and the Toastmasters Short Course. Held for 6 - 7 weeks in January and February, these courses are designed for youth ages 14 - 18 for Toastmasters and 13-18 for Vet Sci.
The Large Animal and Small Animal Veterinary Science Courses address how to prepare for a career, look at schooling needs, and help participants experience some of the daily duties of a veterinarian or vet technician. Other topics include determining animal health (office visits), animal handling and safety, acupuncture, lab radiology, and parasite control. Members even have an opportunity to view a surgical procedure. We are very pleased to have the staff of the Animal Medical Center in Trappe and the Quakertown Veterinary Clinic volunteering to be our instructors and hosting our classes at their locations.
The 4-H Toastmasters Junior Leadership & Public Speaking Course is facilitated by certified members of Toastmasters International. This course will prepare participants for job & college interviews, school presentations and leadership opportunities. Increased confidence and getting rid of those "butterflies in the stomach" when having to speak in front of others in a fun and friendly atmosphere makes this a popular course. Many of our participants return for several years to hone their skills.
