River and Sawyer Lease are no strangers to a show ring. Their enthusiasm for exhibiting livestock led to the brothers capturing the top titles at the Chester County 4-H Market Goat Show. The event was held on August 5th at 3:00 PM at the Chester County 4-H Center in Honey Brook.

Sawyer Lease was named the Grand Champion for his market goat at Monday evening's show, and he was also selected as the Grand Champion Market Goat Showman. River Lease followed in the lineup and was selected as the Reserve Grand Champion Showman and grabbed the Reserve Champion Market Goat ribbon as well!

Sawyer also exhibited a doe in the breeding doe classes. His doe stepped up to the front of the line and was named the Champion Doe. Lyla Engle exhibited a powerful doe and she rose to the rank of Reserve Champion Doe.

Kids in 4-H who work with animals understand them so much better when they learn about what to feed them, how to safely train them, and how to enhance the animal's environment. That is why it is called animal science! The 4-H Animal Science program's focus is providing the best education to our members on raising, managing, marketing, and directly selling their livestock as a companion or as a food source.

Caring for an animal is important. Members participating in a 4-H goat animal science project learn to be responsible and keep good records. Practicing best management while raising an animal gives members the opportunity to engage in science-based, hands-on education. There is nothing like working with a goat to help young people feel connected and boost confidence.
