Members learn about the swine industry through events, shows, and hands-on projects.
On August 6, 2024, forty-one Chester County 4-H members gathered to exhibit their market hog projects. Each one of these members is raising these market hogs in hopes of making a profit that will go towards future 4-H projects or higher education. As the largest livestock club in Chester County, the Swine Club members brought in a total of 85 market hogs to be evaluated by Judge Sam Long of Airville, PA.
"The whole experience is what a member will take home," a parent commented.
There is no doubt that animal selection is important to a swine project, but success starts at home with daily care, grooming, record keeping, and training. If youth remain dedicated to the responsibility they accepted, their commitment is rewarded through the experience gained.
