The Chester County 4-H Sheep Show was held at the Chester County 4-H Center in Honey Brook on Monday, August 5, 2024.

Members of the Golden Fleece 4-H Club and the Purple Ribbon 4-H Sheep Club culminated their efforts and labor during the past year by featuring an impressive 60 head of sheep. The sheep event classes included showmanship, skill-a-thon, breeding, and market animal.

The Senior Showmanship contest was bested by River Lease of Coatesville. The Reserve Showmanship winner was Emma Uhlman. The Junior Showmanship Champion was Lyla Engle who was followed by the Reserve Champion, Taylor Minacci, with the first year Showmanship Champion being taken by Brianna Bulfaro.

The Skill-A-Thon contest senior winners were Alexis McCafferty and Payton Engle. The Junior Skill-A-Thon winners were Gretchen McCafferty and Lyla Engle. The Champion first year Skill-A-Thon participant was Brianna Bulfaro.

Grand Champion Market Lamb was awarded to Sawyer Lease of Coatesville for his heavyweight lamb. Payton Engle of Cochranville was the Reserve Champion Market Lamb, also with a heavyweight lamb.

The Pennsylvania 4-H sheep program helps youth gain a better understanding of the basics of sheep production, nutritional needs of sheep, how to keep sheep healthy and correct health problems, and more.

Caring for an animal is important. Members participating in a 4-H sheep animal science project will learn to be responsible and keep good records. Practicing best management while raising an animal gives members the opportunity to engage in science-based, hands-on education.
