The 2024 Chester County 4-H Fair is off to a strong start as 289 tabletop projects were submitted and judged as part of the Still Project Round-Up on August 5th.

The 4-H members exhibited projects that included sewing and crochet, woodworking, plants and vegetables, cut flowers, expressive arts, photography, painting, crafts, club officer's books, posters, and more.
A few of the top sewing winners were Megan Johnson, Nidhi Suchindra, and Aniuta Gupta for clothing. Megan Johnson was recognized for a quilt, a purse with zipper, and a Christmas stocking. Nidhi Suchindra's stuffed animal received a Grand Champion ribbon in sewing and her crochet turtle is a fan favorite. Madeleine Cross was a top winner with her crochet projects inclduing several original designs. In woodworking, Ethan Magee's cutting board was a top winner, Emma Magee was top winner in drawings. There were 25 paintings in two different categories with Hannah Petersheim's barn painting winning Grand Champion and Kendall Bulfaro receiving Reserve Champion designation on her ostrich painting. A new category this year was Scherenschnitte which is German paper cutting. Megan Johnson's original design was a judges' favorite with Levi Baird receiving Grand Champion with his traditional design.
Olivia Prince won Grand Champion and Isabella Laskas received Reserve Champion recognition in the Dairy Goat Project posters in a category in which 28 children entered. In cooking, Brian Greiner's pumpkin pie was the judges' favorite earning a Grand Champion ribbon, with Maria Kopac a close second receiving the Reserve Champion ribbon for her video on making zucchini bread, samples, and project record. The Milk & More 4-H Community Club and West Chester Sewing Club recevied top honors among the eight club display entries.
The tabletop exhibits are open now through Saturday, August 10th. The public are encouraged to visit and see these or any of the live animal shows happening now through Saturday.
4-H is a national youth development program for children ages 5 to 18 years of age. Clubs meet at local homes, schools, churches, or community centers and are guided by experience adult volunteers using educational projects designed especially for 4-H clubs. The Head, Heart, Hand, and Health of 4-H realize the involvement of more than 2500 young people in this Chester County youth leadership program.
