The Chester County 4-H Dairy Goat Show was held at the Romano 4-H Center of Chester County in Honey Brook as part of the 4-H Fair Week on Thursday, August 10, 2023.

Thirty-four goat projects were exhibited and there were 23 4-H youth participants. This year the show was divided into four breed classes - Nigerian Dwarf, Alpine, American Oberhasli, and Mini Nubian dairy goats. A separate market goat show was held earlier in the week.

Judge Jane Bailey of Marydel, MD did an excellent job in placing the animals and providing the youth instruction to improve their skills.

In the Nigerian Dwarf breed, Alethia Baby Ruth owned by Ethan Magee of Coatesville was Grand Champion, and Black Diamond Piper 2.0 owned by Emma Magee of Coatesville was Reserve Champion and Junior Champion. Black Diamond Oreo Cookie, owned by Ethan Magee, was Reserve Junior Champion.

In the Alpine breed, Reith Bros Farm NeoPolly Dlite, a 2-year-old doe shown by Kaia Bartlebaugh, was the Grand Champion and Senior Champion. Reith Bros Farm Nicotineae, a two-year-old doe owned by Olivia Prince of Downingtown, was Reserve Grand Champion and Reserve Senior Champion. Reith Bros Farm Rhea Becca, shown by Addyson Burgoyne of Coatesville, was the Junior Champion, and Reith Bros Farm Play That Jazz, owned by Olivia Prince, was the Reserve Junior Champion.

In the American Oberhasli breed, Melissa Johnson of Glen Mills was Grand Champion and Senior Champion with her doe, Fullhouse Acres Louisiana Breeze, and Maxwell Wingrave's milking yearling, Fullhouse Acres Pina Colada, was the Reserve Grand Champion and the Reserve Senior Champion. Fullhouse Acres Princess Tiara, a yearling owned by Juliana Johnson of Glen Mills, was the Junior Champion. Juliana's kid goat, Fullhouse Acres Tiara's River, was Reserve Junior Champion.

New this year to our show were Mini Nubian Goats. Lil Bit of Heaven Tornado Beth, owned by Emma Magee, was the Grand Champion and Junior Champion, and Lil Bit of Heaven Margarita, owned by Ethan Magee, was the Reserve Champion and Reserve Junior Champion.

In the Fitting and Showing competition, Melissa Johnson was both the Champion Showman and Champion Fitter for the senior division. In the intermediate division, Julianna Johnson was the Champion Showman and Fitter. In the junior division, Megan Johnson was the Champion Showman and Fitter.

Recognition was also given to Emma Eldredge of Coatesville, Jack Prince of Downingtown, and Ella Wingrave of West Chester as Cloverbud participants.

The Chester County 4-H Goat Show was one of the many shows that took place during the Chester County 4-H Fair Week, held August 7-12, 2023 at the Romano 4-H Center of Chester County in West Brandywine township. We are proud of all our 4-H members and welcome youth with various project interests to participate in our program.
