Agriculture industry group announces safety leaders. Awards were presented at North American Agricultural Safety Summit, March 22-24.
Dennis Murphy, Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Department of Agricultural & Biological Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University, has been honored with a lifetime achievement award from the Agricultural Safety & Health Council of America (ASHCA).
Over the past five decades, Dennis has worked extensively in agricultural safety and health, with appointments in extension, research and education. His areas of focus include applied research and education for ag safety and health management, tractor and machinery, youth safety, methods of modifying worker behaviors, developing hazard analyses tools and ventilation of confined space manure pits. Dennis provides outreach through demonstrations, lectures and presentations, often collaborating with other organizations. He has served on numerous boards and steering committees, providing guidance and leadership to other organizations and projects. Dennis has written and developed numerous extension and research publications, reports and programs, and has been awarded numerous blue ribbons from American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ASABE) for excellence. He was awarded the title of Distinguished Professor by Penn State in 2001.
