Yang Li has been named the biological engineering student marshal for Penn State’s virtual spring commencement on May 9. She will receive a bachelor of science degree in biological engineering with a minor in biomedical engineering.
College of Engineering student marshals are selected for their outstanding academic achievement and contributions to engineering student life.
Virendra Puri, Distinguished Professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, will be Li's faculty marshal, an honor chosen by Li because of Puri's mentorship and guidance.
"An exceptional student-scholar with growing leadership skills, Yang Li's holistic contributions to the biological engineering program will have a lasting impact," Puri said.
While attending Penn State, Li received the Evan Pugh Scholar Award and the College of Agricultural Sciences Undergraduate Research Award. She also made the Dean's List, is a member of Alpha Epsilon Honors Society and volunteered with the Student Red Cross Club.
As a Schreyer Honors Scholar, Li completed a thesis titled, "Determining the Mohr-Coulomb Model Parameters to Examine the Flowability of Ground Corn Stover and Douglas Fir" where she used a cubical triaxial tester to determine the flowability of two biomass feedstocks.
Li, the daughter of Dunpeng Li and Yan Yang, is from Yichang, China. She completed an internship in China as a research assistant with Angel Yeast Co., Ltd.
After graduation, Li will be attending graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania.
