Registration is open for Nature's Trio: Soil, Water, and Pollinators in Balance on Saturday, April 26, 2025, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This workshop expands on many of the Seed to Supper program vegetable gardening lessons. Learn how to employ water conservation strategies, including rain barrels, drip irrigation, and soaker hoses. Discover the benefits of soil conservation methods such as soil testing, composting, and planting cover crops. Understand how to incorporate native plantings to support native pollinators, beneficial insects, and wildlife. Hear how climate change affects local waterways and forests and efforts to mitigate the effects. Learn the skills to implement sustainable practices in your home garden and landscape.
The workshop takes place at the Seed to Supper Vegetable Demonstration Garden at the Trehab Food Bank in Montrose. The working garden produces hundreds of pounds of healthy vegetables annually for distribution in the local community. A walking tour of the Interpretive Trail at the neighboring Susquehanna County Conservation District property offers an opportunity to view native perennial plantings and hives managed by the Susquehanna Beekeepers Association.
Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the outdoor weather. Pack a water bottle, lunch, and a camp chair. Attendees will receive a folder of horticulture information to take home and a native plug plant. The workshop is free. Financial and other support for Nature's Trio has been provided by the Department of Environmental Protection's Environmental Education Grants Program.
Advanced registration is requested. The rain date is Saturday, May 3, 2025.
Registration is available through the Penn State Extension online event website here Nature's Trio: Soil, Water, and Pollinators in Balance or by calling 1-877-345-0691.
