The Penn State Extension Master Gardener Demonstration Garden and Exhibit at the Harford Fair is a highlight of the annual Fair for many visitors and a source of pride for the Master Gardeners.

Master Gardener Building at the Harford Fair

In the early 2000s, Master Gardeners began establishing garden beds around the 4-H Building. The addition of a Master Gardener building in 2016 expanded the Demonstration Garden area and provided space for additional education exhibits indoors. Fair visitors can view the shade garden, spiral herb garden, pollinator-friendly plantings, compost area, and a water feature. The Master Gardeners select a new educational theme annually and incorporate new plantings and signage to engage and educate Fairgoers.

The 2024 Harford Fair Demonstration Garden theme showcased sensory gardening. Visitors engaged with plantings and garden decor that appeal to the senses - touch, sound, sight, taste, and scent. The Master Gardener indoor exhibit debuted the Garden Map Project - a sign and brochure that serves as a wayfinding aid for gardening enthusiasts. Titled, "This is how we garden! Take a stroll through our demonstration gardens!" the project aims to encourage tourism and recreation throughout Susquehanna County.
