Explanation of Scoring Showmanship

A. Judge the exhibitor (NOT the bird) in the following areas:

1. Ability to handle the bird
2. Ability to examine and position the bird
3. Ability to care for the bird
4. Overall knowledge of poultry

B. Birds are judged in the following areas:

1. Condition
2. Cleanliness
3. Health and vigor

C. Showmanship helps youth develop the following life skills and knowledge:

1. Practical knowledge of poultry
2. Confidence and pride
3. Better communication skills

D. Helps with retention of older members who can serve as Junior Leaders and help teach material to younger, less experienced members
