ENTRY FEE: $5.00/person or $20.00/team (Nonrefundable)

  1. Teams of four will compete in a series of head-to-head elimination matches until the top team is chosen.
  2. Teams will be assigned randomly to the first round of the competition. Some teams may be awarded a bye if an odd number of teams are entered. An effort will be made avoid teams from the same organization meeting in round 1.
  3. Competitions between teams will consist of a single phase. All questions will be open questions, when any member of either team may respond. A total of 20 questions will be asked and two points will be awarded for each correct answer. For each incorrect answer, one point will be deducted. No bonus points will be included in the contest.
  4. Contestants must signal and be recognized by the moderator before answering. Once recognized, the contestant must begin answering within 10 seconds. If a signal is activated before the moderator completes reading the question, the moderator will immediately stop, recognize the contestants and await an answer. If the contestant is incorrect or cannot offer an answer or answers before being recognized by the moderator, the question will be completely reread for the other team. Any member of the opposite team can signal and after being recognized, answer the question. If correct, two points will be awarded. For each incorrect answer, one point will be deducted.
  5. If neither team chooses to answer a question within 10 seconds, the moderator will give the correct answer and no points will be awarded.
  6. No discussion of answers among team members is allowed during questions.
  7. If after 20 questions the teams are tied, the moderator will ask 3 additional toss up questions. If the teams are still tied after the 3 additional questions the moderator will continue to ask groups of 3 questions until the teams are not tied at the end of the question group.
  8. Contestants competing in the match may challenge an answer to a question, but the challenge must be made before the next question is asked in the match. If the moderator and judge cannot resolve the challenge, the coordinator of the quiz bowl will make the final determination. The answer may be ruled correct, incorrect, or contest officials may choose to omit all scoring related to the challenged question/answer and substitute an alternative in its place. Only team members competing in the match may challenge answers. Challenges will not be allowed from spectators, coaches, etc
