Chester County 4-H is proud to announce the addition of a Meat Judging Team to its roster of 4-H activities.

Complementing the existing Livestock Judging Team, this new club offers opportunities that aim to expand the learning and competitive horizons for youth in the area.

The Livestock Skillathon is a comprehensive contest that tests participants' knowledge across various aspect of livestock care and management. From equipment and breeds to feedstuffs and retail meat identification, participants will engage in a dynamic learning experience.

Similarly, the Meat Judging Team will embark on a contest journey, where participants will rank different beef, pork, and lamb classes based on estimated value. They will also master the art of identifying retail meat cuts, adding a savory dimension to their learning journey.

"The goal of these additions is to create a well-rounded judging program that offers ample opportunities for Chester County's youth to compete at the national level," stated 4-H volunteer team coach, Samuel Davis.

Interested youth are encouraged to join, regardless of prior experience. Successful participants are characterized by their hard work, competitive spirit, and eagerness to learn.

Practices for these exciting new ventures are already taking place, but there is always room for more! The specific schedule will be shared with participants upon expression of interest.

The Romano 4-H Center of Chester County will serve as the primary hub for the Meat Judging and Livestock Judging teams' practices. Additionally, local farms will host hands-on practice sessions. Virtual and online sessions will be utilized as well, ensuring accessibility and flexibility.
