The Ligonier Demonstration Gardens are used for outdoor STEM Education and for outreach to the general public during our Special Feature events at the Ligonier Country Market during the late spring through early fall season.

A Welcome Garden on the Loyalhanna Watershed Association property was reinvigorated early in 2020 to become a showcase of native bird- and pollinator-friendly plants.

The Children's Garden at the Ligonier Country Market is a special area where children help plant and harvest produce. There are vegetables, herbs, and a sensory garden. The pumpkin patch is planted here, and at the end of the season children may paint a pumpkin to take home.

The other area of the Demonstration Gardens at the Market features top pollinator plants as determined by the Penn State Center for Pollinator Research. There are areas to enjoy the gardens or even have a snack when the Market is open. We do have a raised bed here that is handicap accessible.

The Insectary Border surrounding the Ligonier Community Garden is designed to show how planting to attract pollinators and beneficial insects complements organic gardening and can be beautiful.

A demonstration garden can be found at the Ligonier YMCA - a Children's Pollinator Garden. Located in front of the building, children of all ages can explore a pathway through pollinator-friendly plantings, as well as learn about vegetables and native plants.
