Pennsylvania 4-H'ers from around the state recently competed in the 4-H Animal Bowl and Skillathon Day that took place on Penn State's University Park campus. The event hosted 109 youth aged 10-18 who participated in various events, including dairy bowl, horse bowl, hippology contest, livestock skillathon, and rabbit and cavy bowl and skillathon.

Youth from across Pennsylvania's 4-H program recently participated in the annual 4-H Animal Judging Day, held on Penn State's University Park campus. The event hosted 154 youth aged 10-18 who showcased their skills in various animal judging events. These included dairy, horse, poultry and livestock, which featured swine, sheep and beef cattle.

Since 1984, Huntingdon County 4-H has presented the Chris Kyper Imbt Memorial Award to youth exhibiting dairy animals at fairs and competitions. Thanks to a $30,000 gift from Randy Imbt, the award now has been reimagined and endowed as the Christine Kyper Imbt Memorial 4-H Leadership Award. He has also planned to commit an additional $35,000 for immediate spending for the award and committed a $300,000 bequest to support the endowment in the future.

Carson Riley, a 4-H member from Huntingdon County, was selected as a 2023 Georgia Boot Trailblazer — one of seven 4-H members in the country to earn this honor. The prize package contains a pair of Georgia Boots, a $200 gift card to a local feed and hardware store, and other Georgia Boot merchandise.

As part of its annual 4-H Salute to Excellence Awards, Pennsylvania 4-H selected Kathryn Shea as the 2023 recipient of the Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer Award, which recognizes 4-H volunteers who have served 10 or more years.

A group of 24 Pennsylvania 4-H’ers from 11 counties, as well as seven adult chaperones, recently attended “Ignite by 4-H,” a teen summit held in Washington, D.C., that included four days of panels, respected speakers, hands-on workshop sessions, entertainment and opportunities for building connections with teens from across the country.

Pennsylvania 4-H made a mark at the National 4-H Congress, held recently in Atlanta, Georgia. With 38 4-H youth members and nine adult chaperones, Pennsylvania was the largest delegation in attendance. This five-day event hosted more than 800 youth and adults representing 4-H programs across the country.

Four Pennsylvania 4-H members from Lancaster County — Luke Snavely, Zach Bollinger, Dylan Leed and Eric Zimmerman — and four members from Lebanon County — Bryson Erb, Alex Heisey, Blayne Heisey and James Voight — recently participated in the Southeastern Regional Livestock Contest, held in Abingdon, Virginia. The Lancaster team came in fifth overall, and Leed was the second highest scoring individual overall.
