Blue Valley Farm Show 2024
In August, Northampton County 4-H youth exhibited their livestock animals at the Blue Valley Farm Show and participated in the Blue Valley Farm Show Youth Livestock Sale on Saturday, August 17. Throughout the week of Blue Valley, around the Round Up shows, which are the culminating shows for youth learning about a livestock project. Youth spend many months working with and learning about their animals in preparation for these shows. The showmanship portion of these shows focus on evaluating the youth and how they present their animals. The youth are judged on the animal's presentation and appearance, as well as their own. Blue Valley holds a Round Robin Showmanship Championship where the Master Showman from each livestock species competes in showmanship with all of the species - many of which they do not show themselves!
Tuesday, August 13 was the Poultry Round Up and Dairy Round Up. While the kids could not show live birds at fair again this year, they still learned a great deal from their project experience and the skill-a-thon at Blue Valley. They demonstrated handling techniques for judge, and Northampton County 4-H alumnus, Madison Pagats.
