Workshop Topics
This training prepares specialists to address the requirements of the manure management component of an Act 38 nutrient management plan.
Participants will learn how to:
- Become familiar with the regulations and technical guidances pertaining to manure storages and animal concentration areas (ACAs)
- Identify manure storages and ACAs
- Conduct an evaluation of the adequacy of manure management practices related to these areas to prevent water pollution
- Identify BMPs to address identified inadequate manure management practices that must be included in an Act 38 nutrient management plan
These approaches are introduced in a virtual classroom and practically applied with exercises using multiple on-farm situations.
Registration
ALL must attend Day 1 virtual training.
**Each attendee will only participate in one field training on either Day 2 or Day 3.
The class is split, so smaller groups are visiting farms. Attendees will be assigned either Day 2 or Day 3.
- Day 1, virtual session (https://psu.zoom.us/j/92664914548) 10:00-12:00 presentations; 12:00-1:00 lunch break; 1:00-2:30 presentations.
- Day 2 or Day 3. Meet at the assigned location at 8:45 AM, where participants will carpool to farm locations. Return to the meeting parking area around 3:30 PM.
Registration is required for all Pennsylvania Nutrient Management Specialist Certification trainings. Walk-ins will not be accepted. Registration closes one week prior to the training date.
