Over 250 4-H award winners, parents, leaders, and business sponsors were in attendance at the Somerset County 4-H Recognition Banquet Dinner that was held at the Berlin Community Building on Tuesday, October 23, 2018.

The dinner, sponsored by the Somerset County 4-H Development Fund, Inc., is designed to recognize the Somerset County 4-H sponsors and the county winners in the 4-H awards program, as well as honor local 4-H adult and junior leaders for their volunteer efforts in the 2017-18 4-H club year.

During the evening, $6,600 in scholarships and awards were presented to members of the Somerset County 4-H program.

  • Kate Barron, daughter of Steven and Jennifer Barron, received the Leroy Glessner Memorial, B. J. Maurer, Somerset County Commissioner Gerald Walker, Robert Antram Memorial, Fred Strang Memorial and Riggs Family Scholarships.
  • Kyla Gaibor, daughter of Victor and Brenda Gaibor, received the Somerset Trust Company, Hemminger Homes, Barbera, Melvin, Svonavec & Sperlazza LLP (Sam Sanner Memorial), and AK Coal Resources Inc. Scholarships.
  • Alex Hay, son of Dwayne Hay and Jennifer Hay, received the West Central Equipment, Somerset County Beef Producers (Seth Landis Memorial), Frank Reynolds Memorial, Corsa Coal (Luke Popernack Memorial) and Rick Sechler Memorial Scholarships.
  • Cody Lynch, son of Mike and Sherry Lynch, received the AgChoice Farm Credit, Walter Mahler Memorial, PNC Bank, and Seth Landis Memorial Fund Scholarships.

The AgChoice Farm Credit ACA Outstanding 4-H'er Awards were presented to Cody Lynch and Kyla Gaibor.

William Decker and Abby Knapp received the Intermediate Outstanding 4-H Member Awards.

Caleb Antram and Emma Martz received the Jr. Outstanding 4-H Member Award presented by Barbera, Melvin, Svonavec & Sperlazza LLP.

The 4-H SPIRIT Award was presented to Emma Martz.

The 4-H Achievement Ladder Awards were also presented. These awards are designed to encourage 4-H members to engage in a variety of projects and activities that will enable them to acquire the seven leadership skills necessary to lead successful lives as competent, caring, and contributing citizens.

  • Members receiving Level one -green clover award: Gabriel Barlow, Abigail Beal, Karleigh Beal, Kinley Dull, Carter Durst, Will Eshleman, Matthew Ferko, Kya Gindlesperger, Brinly Green, Elizabeth Griffith, Abigail Ickes, Nicholas Igou, Gavin Kalp, James Miller, Hannah Mitchell, Zachary Mitchell, Gabriella Montes, Anike Prinkey, Josie Smiley, Caden Snyder, Caleb Snyder, Natalie Trowbridge, and Jordan Weigle.
  • Receiving Level two -white clover award: Caleb Antram, Josiah Antram, Abigail Barlow, Carissa Croner, Braden Durst, Hannah Emerick, Christopher Engle, Gabby Hay, Aidan Kalp, Easton Kalp, Vickie Trotter, Teagan Miller, Silke Prinkey, Miranda Sandy, Tyler Sandy, and Kylie Weigle.
  • Receiving Level three -bronze clover award: Jennifer Countryman, Gracie Eshleman, Emma Ferko, Glendon Griffith, Owen Martz, Daniel Moyer, and Abby Shuck.
  • Receiving Level four -silver clover award: Hunter Cornell, Faith Decker, Chloe Ferko, Isaac Metz, Julie Mitchell, Lindsey Robertson, Cameron Salsgiver, Elizabeth Salsgiver, Jacob Sandy, Allie Zeigler, and Austin Zeigler.
  • Receiving Level five - gold clover award: Jenna Dagostino, Hannah Gaibor, Abigail Knapp, and Emma Martz.
  • The highest level 6 is the award of the diamond clover. In addition to meeting other requirements, 4-H'ers must plan and conduct a major service learning project. This level requires two years to complete. This year's award winners were Brooke Cornell, William Decker, Kyla Gaibor, and Grace Romesberg.

Special recognition "Award of the Clover Leaders" was given to the following leaders for their years of 4-H leadership work:

  • Bronze Clover, One Year of Service - Levi Beal, Sherry Berkebile, Sabrina Caton, Carrie Croner, Zabrina Fisher, Autumn Fogle, Mark Friedline, Jenny Plummer, Jade Pyle, Julie Sheeler, Amanda Webreck, and Tiffany Weigle.
  • Silver Clover, Five Years of Service - Jeannette Coleman, Mandy Emert, Mary Green, Dewey Hagerty, and Kayla Hemminger.
  • Gold Clover, Ten Years of Service - Dennis Berkebile, Kaitlyn Coughenour, Bryan Hay, Forrest Ohler, Donald Shinn, Janet Shinn, and Vincent Svonavec.
  • Pearl Clover, Fifteen Years of Service - Elizabeth Kovach, Sherry Lynch, Terry Shaulis, Scott Summits, and Keri Weighley.
  • Twenty Years of Service - Jackie Coughenour and Jeri Williams
  • Twenty-five Years of Service - Debbie Miller and Rachael Mostoller.
