Members from Northeast Pennsylvania expand their dairy cattle knowledge of nutrition, showmanship, and fitting.
The first Northeast- Lycoming County Dairy Camp was held June 10-11th at the Montour Delong Fairgrounds. There were 13 4-H members who attended the camp from Lycoming and Schuykill counties.
On Saturday members got started with guest speaker David Castrogiovanni, who spoke on fitting and showmanship. Our second guest speaker on Saturday was Lycoming County Dairy Princess, Avery Fogal. Fogal is a Lycoming County 4-H member. Avery introduced herself, played dairy trivia with the members, and served ice cream.
On Sunday, members started their day by washing their animals and getting them ready to finish their fitting and the mock showmanship show. We welcomed Emily Fread, Penn State Extension Dairy Educator and Adam Sonnen as guest speakers. Sunday was concluded with special guest Pat Kitchen, who ran the mock showmanship show for the members to participate in.
We would like to thank Wegmans, Cracker Barrel, and Montour Delong Junior fairboard who provided meals and snacks for us throughout the weekend.
