The Lehigh County 4-H Livestock Club once again has woven a 100%-wool shawl that will be sold at the livestock sale at the Allentown Fair on August 31 at 1 pm. This is the third year that the club has made a shawl, under the direction and guidance of Roger and Nancy Bowman, with the proceeds from the sale going to charities in the area.
The 6-foot-long, 21-inch-wide shawl was planned, designed, and woven by the club members with the yarn being donated by Winterside Farm. The members used 4 different colored woolen yarns to make an interesting pattern having colored variated blocks. The Oxford Gray, Blue Loch, Larkspar, and Midnight Green colors produced an interesting block pattern.
After 3 years of weaving, the members have become quite proficient at making a beautiful woolen shawl. Since the shawl is somewhat dark, it might be called Midnight Warmth. The 4-H Youth have chosen to divide the proceeds of the shawl auction between Parkland Cares Food Pantry and The Kindness Project, both organizations located here in the Lehigh Valley.
