A recent grant award from the Wyoming County Community Health Foundation will enable the Master Gardeners of Wyoming County to expand the Seed to Supper program to additional communities. The program will be offered in Factoryville, Noxen, and Tunkhannock in February-March 2023.

Seed to Supper is a comprehensive beginning vegetable gardening program that provides adult gardeners with the tools they need to know how to successfully grow a portion of their own healthy produce on a limited budget. Are you confused about composting? Intimidated by garden pests? Curious about container gardening? Trained Master Gardener volunteers will instruct and demonstrate practical, low-cost techniques for planning, planting, maintaining, and harvesting a successful vegetable garden. Participants will be encouraged to make budget-friendly decisions in their gardens and to share the joy of eating home-grown vegetables. The course also includes nutrition education information and healthy recipes.

The Seed to Supper classes are offered at no charge to participants and presented in partnership with the Factoryville United Methodist Church, Noxen Neighborhood Community Center, and Tunkhannock Public Library. In addition to classroom instruction and hands-on activities, each participant will receive the 150-page Seed to Supper coursebook, an assortment of vegetable, herb, and companion flower seed packets, seed starting mix, a greenhouse tray, and additional gardening supplies!

Seed to Supper offers more than just gardening education and improved access to healthy foods. The lessons equip adult learners with the knowledge and encouragement to increase individual and community food insecurity by fostering food literacy, community connectivity and supportive social networks.

Course dates and registration information will be available in early January. Registration is required as space is limited at all three community locations. For additional information or questions, please contact Melissa Wright, Master Gardener Coordinator, at 570-836-3196 or .
