Do you have keen interest in gardening? Do you want to give back to the community by educating the public about home gardening and plants? Join us and start your path to becoming a Penn State Master Gardener!
The Master Gardener program offers 40+ hours of training that includes botany, plant propagation, soil health, and fertilizer management, composting, controlling pests safely, entomology, plant diseases, vegetables, lawn care, pruning, woody ornamentals, herbaceous plants, native plants, weeds, and more. These will be live, virtual courses via Zoom and taught by Penn State Horticulture Educators! No prior horticulture knowledge is required to take the Master Gardener class!*
Below are the details to become certified as a Master Gardener:
- Cost of the class is $200 which includes all Basic Training classes & materials, our 800 page Master Gardener Manual (hardcover), Master Gardener T-shirt, and a Penn State Master Gardener name badge. *Payment is not due at the time of application submission*
- You must complete 40+ hours of virtual Basic Training through Penn State Extension between October 2024-March 2025.
- Fulfill 50 hours of volunteer service during the year after training (Master Gardeners maintain their status by fulfilling 20 hours of volunteer time and attending a minimum of ten hours of continuing education training, yearly)
