Interested in Becoming a Penn State Master Gardener? Do you have a passion for gardening and want to share with others? Penn State Master Gardeners are volunteers who are trained by Penn State Extension and support Extension’s educational programs in consumer horticulture.
To become certified as a Penn State Master Gardener, you must go through 40-hours of training, score at least 80 percent on the final exam. Some of the topics that will be covered are: Botany, Communications, Entomology, Woody Ornamentals, Trees, Pests and Disease, Herbaceous Plants, Soils and Composting, Vegetables, and much more. Trainees must then complete 50 hours of volunteer service within their first year to achieve their official Master Gardener certification. Master Gardeners maintain their certification by completing 20 hours of volunteer service and 10 hours of continuing education each year.
There is a program fee of $200.00 to cover the cost of training materials, which includes the Manual, and other expenses. Applications are being accepted. Interviews will also be conducted by zoom. If interested, please contact us for more information!
