Master Gardeners Teach!

The Penn State Master Gardener Program is a volunteer program that supports the outreach mission of Penn State Extension by utilizing unbiased research-based information to educate the public and our communities on best practices in Sustainable Horticulture and Environmental Stewardship. No prior experience is required.

All Trainees receive 40 hours+ of basic training in Horticultural Sciences. When completed, the new Master Gardener Apprentice must complete 50 hours of volunteer service within their first year in order to become a Certified Master Gardener. Each year, renewal of the certification is achieved by completing 20 hours of volunteer service with the Jefferson County Extension Master Gardeners and 10 hours of continuing education through Penn State. All hours must be approved and recorded.

If accepted into the program, there is a fee of $200 for the class which includes all materials, the manual and class costs.
