Growing Conditions

The garden is located on a rocky, but gentle slope with a tall stand of trees serving as a backdrop. These trees keep the garden in partial shade. Fallen leaves from the trees serve as mulch and enrich the soil.

Description

The goal of the garden is to plant as many varieties of perennials and annuals with red, white, and blue flowers as possible. From year to year, plants are selected based on availability, suitability for the environment, and the vibrancy of their red, white, and blue flowers.

Rocks of various size and shapes dot the landscape symbolizing the strength of our nation. In addition, decorative symbols such as boats and flags accent the landscape as a tribute to all those who have served our country.

Background

The Old Glory Garden was created in 2011 to honor our veterans. The brilliant red, white, and blue flowers and patriotic symbols in the garden evoke strong feelings of patriotism from its visitors. Visitors frequently sit on the Carolyn DiPaulo Memorial Bench to admire the Old Glory Garden and meditate for a while reflecting on what our country means to them and honoring all those who have helped to preserve our freedom.
