The Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Delaware County invite All county gardeners to share the splendor of their beautiful gardens during our 33rd Annual Garden Contest! The contest is open to all skill levels and ages, and to home gardens and community gardens alike, including those at a school, senior center, church, or any other group organization in Delaware County. This community-building event will be conducted over the spring and summer months, and then celebrated with ribbons and award certificates at the Fall Fest on September 28, 2024.

Our Master Gardeners will personally visit all gardens entered in the content. We are interested in gardeners’ good gardening practices, design, plant variety, and environmental impact and will recognize winning gardens for their merits. On the judging days, entrants meet with our panel of Master Gardeners, who will not only judge the gardens but also answer gardeners’ questions.

The 33rd annual Garden Contest has the following three judging dates:

  1. May 17 - ornamental gardens with spring ephemerals such as azaleas, bulbs, and peonies. Deadline to enter is May 13.
  2. June 21 - early summer flowering shrubs, trees, and flowers. Deadline to enter is June 17.
  3. August 2 - vegetable gardens, youth gardens, and community gardens (including churches, schools, and senior centers). Deadline to enter is July 29.

Winners will be notified by email, and celebrated with ribbons and award certificates at our annual Fall Fest on Saturday, September 28 at Smedley Park in Springfield, PA.
