Penn State Master Gardeners conduct the Garden Hotline at the Penn State Extension Office in Carlisle, Plant Clinics at farmers markets in Carlisle and Camp Hill, and Plant Clinics at community events to provide research-based information to residents and home gardeners to diagnose lawn, landscape, and garden problems.

Soil Test Kits and Water Test Kits: Soil test kits and water test kits can be purchased at Penn State Extension office in Cumberland County during business hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Kits can also be ordered online directly from the Agricultural Analytical Services Laboratory. View more information online about soil testing, soil fertility test kits, and water testing.
Plant Pathology Services: The Clinic is accepting digital sample submissions. Depending on the email reply from the Plant Clinic, physical samples can be mailed to the Clinic via US Mail, FedEx and UPS. See the Clinic website and details below for more information on submitting digital and physical samples.
Digital sample submissions
- Download and complete the fillable Specimen Information Form.
- Email the completed form along with photos of your plant problem to PlantClinic@psu.edu.
Mailing samples
- If the Clinic confirms via email that a sample needs to be mailed, contact the Clinic at PlantClinic@psu.edu or 814-865-2204 to let us know you are sending a sample.
- Ship samples via US Mail, FedEx or UPS and get a tracking number for your package. Send us your tracking information (tracking number, estimated arrival date). For more information on how to collect and package your sample see our instructions for selecting and sending specimens.
