Joined by guest speaker Katina Hunter, volunteers and members of the Snyder County 4-H program gathered Friday, November 9 for the annual 4-H Celebration to recognize those who completed and had projects judged, and participated in activities and events held during the 2017-18 program year. A number of annual awards were distributed during the event.

Club Scrapbooks awards

  • Backyard Bunnies 4-H Club for first place
  • Eager Beaver Dairy Club for second place.

County Officer Book competition

Club Officers have the opportunity to enter their officer's books into the county officer book competition.

Individual Officer Book competition

The following individuals received recognition for the work put into their individual officer books.

  • Kassidy Reedy for the President Record Book Award
  • Kristin Shaffer for the Vice President Record Book Award
  • Samuel Hauck for the Secretary Record Book Award
  • Tabitha Hauck for the Treasurer Record Book Award
  • Laura Kratzer for the Communications Officer Book Award.

Community Support award

The Community Support award was started to recognize those clubs who have innovative ideas and supported activities in our county. The contest measures all aspects of the club: membership, activities, project completion and meeting content.

Receiving the 2018 Community Support Award was the Backyard Bunnies. The projects they submitted included 3 new and 2 repeat activities. The activities included between 3 and 16 members, and up to 24 parents. Participating in Middlecreek Kids Day, Ronald McDonald House Collection, U-Turn for Christ, and giving donations to the Beaver Community Fair, the club was able to showcase their projects and give back to the community that supports them.

Friend of 4-H Award

Glenn and Linda Holler of Globe Mills, were recognized as the 2018 Friend of 4-H Award. As previous parents of a Snyder County 4-H member, Glenn and Linda have supported the program in the past and continue to do so at the Beaver Community Fair Youth Livestock Sale.

Outstanding 4-H Member Award

Recognition of the Outstanding 4-H member award was given to Emily Kuhn and McKenzie Meiser. Emily Kuhn is the daughter of Chris and Teresa Kuhn of Mt. Pleasant Mills. She has been in the 4-H program for 5 years. McKenzie Meiser is the daughter of Josh and Michelle Meiser of Port Trevorton and has been in the 4-H program for 7 years. Both girls have taken rabbit projects through the Backyard Bunnies Club. They have held offices in the club, been involved with the American Rabbit Breeders Association, exhibited at the local and state level and have helped the club with fundraising and community support efforts.
