POSITION SUMMARY
This position will collaborate with a multitude of federal, state, and NGO partners across Pennsylvania to restore aquatic connectivity, develop instream habitat, and promote the long-term values associated with aquatic restoration. Projects will include road crossing assessments, restoration designs, large wood installations, construction oversight and monitoring of restoration projects on both public and private lands. This position is full time with benefits and is based out of the Lock Haven, PA field office with travel to project sites across the state.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement habitat improvement, bank stabilization, and aquatic organism passage projects across Pennsylvania.
- Create appropriate habitat in headwater streams using tools including chainsaws, gas powered drills, gas powered jack hammers, grip hoist, hand tools, pulleys, levers.
- Transport gear (up to 65 lbs.) over difficult and remote terrain.
- Work as a team with a high degree of coordination and communication.
- Keep a positive attitude and follow directions while conducting physically demanding work, often in inclement weather.
- Maintain equipment and report maintenance/equipment needs to supervisor.
- Provide assistance with preparing permits and maps, as well as data input and database maintenance.
- Additional duties in support of the habitat program may be required and include, but are not limited to tree planting, conducting biological and culvert surveys, water temperature monitoring, and education/outreach.
- Perform all duties with safety as top priority.
- This is a non-supervisory position, but it does include oversight of contractors.

QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of a A.A.S. in hydrology, geomorphology, environmental engineering, fisheries biology, forestry, or related discipline.
- Demonstratable proficiency operating a chainsaw and other power equipment as listed above is preferred. Professional certification is a plus.
- Ability to quickly acquire skills and learn new techniques.
- Willing to work long days in challenging environments.
- Experience with physically demanding work.
- Possess strong communication skills.
- Working knowledge of watershed health and function.
- A valid driver's license, own vehicle, and the ability to pass background checks for employment.
- A strong passion for native fishes and the watersheds upon which they rely.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team with varied skills, abilities, and perspectives.
- Ability to think creatively, keep an open mind, and take constructive criticism.
- Ability to work independently and from a remote office location.
- Experience with construction oversight and/or operating heavy equipment is preferred.
- Knowledge of fish habitat and hydrology.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and ArcGIS.
- Knowledge of basic mechanical repair.
