The Potter County Extension Office will soon have a new demonstration garden, thanks to the work of Master Gardener Apprentices Brent Bryant, Cindy Kazimer, Leona Smith, and Cynthia Kelly.

Plans call for the new garden to be filled with native shrubs and perennials that will thrive in the Coudersport area. Butterfly milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa), Blue Phlox (Phlox divaricata), and Blazing Star (Liatris spicata) were among the first native perennials to be added, along with several transplants from the apprentices' private gardens. The garden is located on a slight slope, giving it somewhat of a rock garden appearance, and is adjacent to the new Potter County community garden. New plants will be added as they become available, and the group may decide to apply for certification as a "Pollinator-Friendly Garden" in the future. The garden will serve as a teaching tool in support of classes and workshops and showcase a variety of plants and successful gardening techniques. The addition of plant identification markers and signage is also being planned.
