On Saturday, November 2, 2024, the Potter County Extension office classroom buzzed with creativity and excitement as 27 attendees gathered for a hands-on Terrarium Workshop. Hosted by the Penn State Extension Master Gardener program, the event ran from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering community members a unique opportunity to learn the art of creating their own miniature ecosystems.

Participants brought their own glass containers, which added a personalized touch to each creation, while the Master Gardener program supplied soils and plants. The workshop was skillfully led by Isabelle Jobe, a Master Gardener from McKean County, and Bonnie French, a Master Gardener from Potter County. Both instructors shared valuable insights and guided attendees through each step of the process, ensuring everyone left with a beautiful and thriving terrarium.

The response to the workshop was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees expressed enthusiasm for the hands-on experience and requested a similar event in the near future. The Master Gardener program is thrilled by the interest and is already considering plans to host another terrarium workshop within the next year.

Special thanks go to Shelby from Seeds and Stems in Bradford, whose generous support helped cover a portion of the cost of the plants, and to all the participants who made this event a success. Events like this highlight the joy of gardening and the strength of our community.
