Imagine a community where young minds are captivated by the wonders of gardening and agriculture—this is the reality in Crawford County, thanks to the Penn State Master Gardeners. Their Ag Literacy program for first graders, running for eight years, earned them a 2nd Place award in youth programming for the David Gibby Search for Excellence awards in June 2024 at the Master Gardener Statewide Conference. The 2024 program involved reading "Anywhere Farm" and conducting activities for 20 classes, highlighting the importance of agriculture in everyday life.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Master Gardeners plan to expand their reach to 22 classrooms in March, using the book "Soil in Jackie's Garden." This new program will continue their tradition of engaging and informative activities, fostering a deeper connection between young students and the environment.

The compounded positive effects of their efforts are evident in the growing interest in gardening among Crawford County's youth. By instilling a sense of wonder and respect for nature, the Master Gardeners are nurturing the next generation of environmentally conscious citizens, ensuring a greener, more sustainable future for the community.
