The eight-acre property includes plenty of outdoor space for Master Gardener plantings and activities, and we're looking forward to the upcoming growing season. As in the past, we'll be sharing the facilities and grounds with the Clinton County Conservation District.

Although we're just getting settled in, plans are already underway for a gardening symposium in January. Prior to the pandemic, Master Gardeners had held an annual event called Garden Sense each year in January which included several presentations of interest to local gardeners as well as a hands-on workshop which gave them an opportunity to do a little gardening in the dead of winter. We're resuming that tradition with Garden Sense 2023, which is scheduled for January 28, 2023 at our Cooperation Lane location. While the workshop schedule is still under development, we're planning to include a presentation by Horticulture Educator Tom Butzler that will focus on things homeowners can do this winter to help decrease spongy (formerly gypsy) moth populations on their properties during the spring and summer. Another speaker has been invited to talk about the history of Penn's Woods, and we're developing a hands-on workshop focused on growing African violets as houseplants. We've already ordered a selection of African violets and will have plenty of potting soil on hand. Participants will be encouraged to bring their own pots, although we'll have some available which can be purchased along with plants. We're also considering a few additional topics of interest. Master Gardeners will be present to answer questions and provide research-based gardening information. Complete details on the 2023 Garden Sense Symposium will be available in early January.
